JCC Board of Education Approves Budget & Tax Levy for 2020-2021 Year

The Board of Education at Johnson County Central Schools approved of raising the tax levy for the special building fund 2 ½ cents and the general fund a ½ a cent in order to build its cash reserve for the 2020- 2021 budget. According to Superintendent Jon Rother, with this type of increase to the cash reserve, Johnson County Central Schools’ won’t have to borrow from its special building fund for future projects.

Remembering Investigator Mario Herrera

I was deeply saddened to learn that Investigator Mario Herrera, a 23-year veter- an of the Lincoln Police Department, had passed away after being shot in the line of duty on August 26. He was helping the Metro Area Fugitive Task Force and Gang Unit serve a high-risk warrant in Lincoln when he was critically wounded. Investigator Herrera leaves behind his wife, Carrie, and their four children.

10 Years Ago A 60’ x 150’ machine shed on the Larry Kersten farm four miles east of Tecumseh was totally destroyed when straight winds blew through the Tecumseh area Monday night, September 13. The wind lifted the right tires of his 4055 John Deere cab tractor (a $14,000 - 15,000 lb.

Troopers Arrest 73 Impaired Drivers

Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) removed 73 impaired drivers from the road during the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign to close out the summer driving season. The effort, which ran from August 21 through September 7, was part of a national campaign involving law enforcement agencies throughout the country.

Belle Terrace Brings in New Management Team

Belle Terrace nursing home in Tecumseh is currently under temporary management through Rural Health Development Inc., according to Ron Ross, president of this firm. In mid-July, Rural Health Development was assigned to temporary receivership by the Johnson County District Court Judge.
