Johnson County Central boys basketball fans were on pins and needles as the Thunderbirds’ Wes Swanson made a pair of freethrows in the final seconds to win their game against Mead Raiders 51-48 to take third third place in the East Central Nebraska Conference Tournament held at Freeman Saturday, Feb. 3.

Jets Face PC, HTRS in Pioneer Conf.

The Sterling Jets boys basketball squad faced Pawnee City in the opening round of the Pioneer Conference basketball tournament at Wymore Southern on Monday, January 29. This game was scheduled to be played at Diller-Odell but there was a power outage and the issue wasn’t repaired until later in the evening.

JCC Girls Wrestling at NSAA Subdistricts

Three JCC girls wrestlers medaled at the NSAA Subdistrict competition held at Crete on Saturday, February 3. Individual results: Weight 100: Jocelyn Prado pinned Aydrian Meyer of Thayer Central in 16 seconds. Prado went on to pin Kobie Kosek of Seward in 29 seconds of the quarterfinals. In the semifinal round, Prado defeated Aubrie Beed of Aurora by a fall at 1:23.

The Johnson County Central boys wrestling squad placed third in the East Central Nebraska Conference Duals competition held in Auburn on Friday, February 2. There were five rounds in this duals competition. Individual results for each of the five rounds are as follows: Round 1

Three JCC Girls Wrestlers take First at ECNC Meet

Johnson County Central’s Girls Wrestling Squad came home from the ECNC Conference Wrestling Invitational with three first place medalist in Jocelyn Prado, Alejandra Reyes and Haylee Trew. JCC’s Shelbi Peters earned a third place medal and Jaylene Arroyo-Reyes medaled in fourth place. Johnson County Central Schools hosted the ECNC Conference Girls Wrestling Invitational on Tuesday, January 23. Individual wrestling results are as follows: Weight Class 100: Jocelyn Prado of Johnson County Central Schools won a first place medal at the ECNC Girls Wrestling Invitational. She also scored 20 team points. In the opening round, Prado defeated Aydrian Meyer of Thayer Central by a fall at 1:09. In her second round match, Prado pinned Lah Ku Paw of Omaha Benson in 23 seconds. Prado went on to defeat Angelina Schademann of Fillmore Central by a fall at 2:51 of the third round match.

JCC Earns Medals at Freeman Wrestling Invite

Several JCC boys medaled at the Freeman Wrestling Invitational held at Freeman on Friday evening, January 26. Individual wrestling results are as follows: Weight Class 106: Caden McDonald finished the Freeman Wrestling Invitational in sixth place. Johnson County Central’s Erik Prado and Caden McDonald faced each other in the opening round, Prado pinned McDonald at 3:55 of the match. In the second round, Peyton Welsh of Louisville pinned JCC’s McDonald at 1:47. In the third round, Ayden Smith of Auburn pinned JCC’s McDonald at 1:42. In the consolation bracket, Johnson County Central’s Caden McDonald won a 9-5 decision over Ethan Young of Norris. JCC’s McDonald faced Ayden Smith of Auburn in the fifth place match. Smith won an 18-7 major decision over McDonald.
