Veterans Memorial & Peace Garden Complete at Lewiston Cemetery

  • THE LEWISTON CEMETERY recently completed their Peace Garden and Veterans Memorial project with construction of a pergola surrounded by engraved pavers and covering three benches, erecting a granite wall with the history of the cemetery, and the Veterans Memorial with an eagle sitting atop a Freedom Rock.

The first burial at the Lewiston Cemetery was in 1886, five years before the cemetery was officially plotted in 1891. George Thomson, a blacksmith, is buried in the far northeast corner of the cemetery. The cemetery is a small area, sold to the Lewiston Cemetery Association in August 1891 for the sum of $1.00 by Ford Lewis, for whom the town is named, and his wife Elizabeth, who had come to…
