Bruce C. Gerking

October 30, 1943 - March 3, 2024

Bruce C. Gerking, 80 of Burr, passed away on March 3, 2024, at his home. He was born on October 30, 1943, to Charles & Evelyn (Spanjer) Gerking in Tecumseh and graduated from Cook High School. On May 1, 1966, he married the love of his life, Nancy Ellig, at the Hope Lutheran Church in Burr.

Bruce dedicated his life to family, community, and service. He joined the Army Reserves in 1964 and honorably served his country for 6 years. His professional journey spanned over 40 years as a trusted mechanic at Straube Repair Shop in Burr. Bruce was also a community leader, serving as the Mayor of Burr for 28 years. His commitment extended to the Hope Lutheran Church Council and the Burr Fire Department.

Bruce found joy in making wine with wild grapes, tending to his garden, and passionately supporting the Huskers. His lifelong love of fishing, hunting, and trapping was created as a young man with his father.

He is survived by his wife Nancy; sons Chad (Sheila), Spencer (Penny); grandchildren Justin (Zoya), Nikki (Anthony, Jacinta), Sarah (Dexton), Preston, Grace, Abigail, Carter, Katelyn; great grandchildren Dmitry, Milena, Anthony, Amari; brothers Lowell (Carol), Les (Kris); sister-in-law & brother-inlaw Diane & Rodney; lifelong friends Dennis & Donna; also numerous nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles & Evelyn Gerking.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 30th at 2:00 p.m. at the Hope Lutheran Church in Burr. The service will be livestreamed on the Fusselman Facebook page. Following the service, a time of fellowship will be held, where cookies and coffee will be served.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Anthony Brock, Don Schmit, Don Goracke, Mark Panko, Greg Sell, Jerry Carper, Dave Antholz, Kirk Faris and Tim Gerking.

Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Children’s Home Society.
