Kristin Kay (DeFreece) Brommer of Mt. Ayr, Iowa died unexpectedly on June 22, 2020 at the age of 60 in Mount Ayr, Iowa.

Kris was born on December 3, 1959 in Gulfport, Mississippi to Jim and Donna (Cunningham) DeFreece. She, along with her parents and older brother Dave, lived in Gulfport for 3 years until moving to Hastings and Omaha while Jim finished CRNA school, eventually arriving in Tecumseh, Nebraska in 1966. Kris graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1978 and went to Hastings College. She married Jeffrey Brommer at Tecumseh Baptist Church on December 27, 1980.

Over the next 6 years, Jeff and Kris would have 3 children - Patrick, Kyle, and Sydney. Kris eventually returned to school to finish her education degree, and became an upper elementary teacher for Pierce and Battle Creek Public Schools. She decided to leave teaching to become a continuity director for WJAG/KEXL radio station in Norfolk, Nebraska. The education profession called, and she returned to graduate school and earned a Master’s Degree in Library Science. She returned to education as a media specialist and eventual fifth grade teacher for Norfolk Public Schools until moving to Omaha and subsequently Mount Ayr, Iowa.

In her spare time, Kris was an avid reader, especially World War II novels; learned and enjoyed the Italian language, especially to understand her favorite singers, Il Volo; spending time with her grandchildren; and loving and caring for the many dogs that came through her household. She is fondly remembered by her family as a multi-talented individual, from teaching to music education to writing radio advertisement spots.

Kris is survived by husband, Jeff Brommer of Mt. Ayr, IA; three children, Patrick (Alicia) Brommer of Tecumseh, NE, Kyle Brommer of Mt. Ayr, IA, and Sydney (Aaron) Zach of Omaha, NE; three grandchildren Elliott and Coralynn Brommer, and Cooper Zach; parents Jim and Donna (Cunningham) DeFreece of Tecumseh, NE; brothers Dave (Rhonda), Dan (Kay), Andy (Gina), and Steve (Paula); numerous nieces and nephews, and many other friends and family members.

Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2020 at the Tecumseh Cemetery, Tecumseh, Nebraska with Pastor Hugh Giesbrecht officiating.
