This Mesonet weather station has been set up in rural Cook by the Nebraska State Climate Office to monitor hourly conditions of various meteorological variables in Johnson County.
The statewide weather monitoring network in Nebraska began in 1981 with five observing locations. The mesonet was designed with the agricultural community in mind, but has now broadened its scope to serve as an environmental monitoring program. Now the network includes 68 stations in 49 counties.
