Sterling Boys & Girls Take 1st & 2nd at Pioneer Conf. Track

Brrr....Track competitors and fans dealt with a cold and windy day of competition at the Pioneer Conference Track Meet held at Pawnee City on Saturday, April 27. The Sterling Boys claimed the championship title with 106 points for the day. Johnson-Brock, claimed seventh place with 38 points.

The Sterling girls were runner-up in their division with 80 points. Tri County won the girls division with 124 points. Johnson-Brock girls were eighth with 26 points.

JCC JH Track Invitational Meet

Johnson County Central Schools hosted a junior high track invitational with eight teams competing on April 25. The JCC junior high boys finished in sixth place with 31 points. The JCC girls finished in eighth place with 24 points.

Syracuse won the boys division with 133 points and the girls division as well with 127 points.

JCC Individual results:

Boys Division

100 Meter Dash: Wyatt Ludemann, seventh, 13.55. Ivan Arellano, 15th, 14.79; Steven Baumgartner, 25th, 17.58.

200 Meter Dash: Wyatt Ludemann, 10th, 29.33; Jovany Cabrales, 20th, 34.85; Austin Goracke, 23rd, 36.41; Tucker Drake, 24th, 37.01.

400 Meter Dash: Cameron Schuster, seventh, 1:06.81; Jose Duarte, 10th, 1:11.49; Jacob Liscomb, 14th, 1:14.13; Sergio Valles, 16th, 1:14.64.

800 Meter Run: Cameron Schuster, 10th, 2:43.02; Aiden Weber, 14th, 2:48.19; Hayden Huskey, 16th, 2:50.11; Brandon Speckmann, 19th, 2:55.79.

Tyler Bartels Pars the Course as JCC Wins Over HTRS

JCC’s Tyler Bartels shot an even par 36 at the Tecumseh Country Club to win the JCC/ HTRS Dual. He scored three birdies, four pars, one bogey, and one double bogey for the day!

The varsity golfers from Johnson County Central Schools totaled 172 points to defeat HTRS’ varsity, which finished with 219 points.

Individual scoring for JCC’s varsity golfers was as follows: Tyler Bartels, first with a 36; Eli Waring, second with a 43; Tanner Kerner, 47; Sam Buss tied for third place with a 46. Garret Cropp finished with a 48.

Scoring for HTRS’ varsity included: Jacob Joy, 50; Andy Stalder, 55; Joe Snethen, 56; Hunter Frey, 58; and Lenny Blecha, 76.

JCC’s junior varsity golfers finished with the following scores: Andruw Stafford, tied for third with 46; Gabe De-Freece, 56; Jonathan Duncan, 69; Jack Leuenberger, 76; Devin Conley, 61; and Phillip Kauffman, 74.

Logan Jasa to play basketball at Peru State College Next Year

“I’m pretty excited,” said Logan Jasa as he signed a letter of intent to play college basketball at Peru State College. “I’m amazed to get to this point in my life,” he added. Logan has always loved the atmosphere that comes with playing in a basketball game. “I’ve always wanted to play college basketball. It’s a dream come true.”

Bob Ludwig, head boys basketball coach at Peru State College is excited to have Logan Jasa and other local players from throughout southeast Nebraska join his team at Peru State. Coach Ludwig looks forward to watching Jasa perform as a high-skilled level player in the guard position. “I like the range of his shot,” Ludwig added.

Sterling Tracksters Win Title at Irish Invite, Johnson-Brock Team Finishes in Fifth Place

The Sterling girls and boys track teams earned the championship title of the Falls City Sacred Heart Irish Invitational held at Syracuse on April 16. The Sterling boys totaled 109 points for their championship title, while the Sterling girls won the championship title with 94 points.

Other teams participating in the Irish Invitational along with their combined scores include: Falls City Sacred Heart, second, 167; Pawnee City, third, 145.50; Nebraska City Lourdes Central, fourth, 134; Johnson-Brock, fifth, 112; Humboldt-TRS, sixth, 84; Cornerstone Christian, seventh, 49; Omaha Brownell-Talbot, eighth, 42.50; Omaha Christian Academy, ninth, 38; Syracuse, 10th, 35; Palmyra, 11th, 27; Lewiston, 12th, 10; Heartland Christian, IA,13th, 7.

JCC Golfers Capture ECNC Conference Title Tuesday

The JCC Thunderbirds took home the conference title at the ECNC Championships held at Crooked Creek Golf Club on Tuesday, April 16th. It was a close team competition with Yutan, the Thunderbirds came out on top by four strokes, winning 349 to 353. Leading the way for JCC were Tyler Bartels and Eli Waring, who placed 3rd and 4th shooting 81 and 82 respectively.

Sterling Boys Win Lewiston Invitational Track Meet on April 9th

The Sterling boys track team won the Lewiston Invitational Track Meet held in Pawnee City on April 9 by scoring 96 points.

Johnson-Brock’s Head Track Coach stated: “It was a great day for a meet. The sun came out and warmed up in the afternoon. The boys team ended up finishing fifth overall and the girls team finished ninth out of twelve teams in the meet. We had many athletes have personal best performances on the day.”

Fans following the Johnson County Central, Sterling and Johnson-Brock track teams had a beautiful day to watch the MUDECAS track invitational held at Freeman on Saturday, April 13th.

The Sterling boys took runner-up with a total of 93 points. The Johnson County Central boys finished seventh with 36 points. Johnson-Brock boys followed in eighth place with 31 points. Freeman won the meet with a total 146 points.

JCC vs. Southern Boys Golf Dual @ Wymore

Johnson County Central travelled to Wymore to dual Southern to open the 2019 season. Eli Waring was the individual medalist shooting a 37 on the par 35 course. As a team, the Thunderbirds defeated the Raiders 163 to 192.
