Johnson-Brock Lady Eagles claim Pioneer Conference Runner-up title

HUMBOLDT - The Johnson- Brock Lady Eagles exceeded their expectations last week at the 2013 Pioneer Conference Volleyball Tournament played at Pawnee City and HTRS. The Lady Eagles came into the tournament as  the #4 seed, but claimed the Conference Runner-up trophy at the end of the week.

JCC girls split wins in regular season finale

The JCC Lady Thunderbirds hosted Yutan and Elmwood- Murdock in a triangular to end the regular 2013 volleyball season on Tuesday, October 29th. The JCC girls played a close game against Yutan in the opening round of  the triangular. They just couldn’t get control of the lead and were handed a 25-20, 25-23 loss to the Lady Chieftains. Lauren Klaasmeyer completed 46 set attempts against Yutan with nine assists. Tiffany Neukirch came off the bench to contribute six set attempts and one assist. In the spiking category, Leah Tubbesing had three kills on 20 attempts. Kaylea Speckmann contributed four kills on 16 attempts. Mady Henne added one kill on nine attempts.

Jets win state qualifying round at home

DILLER - The Sterling hosted the Scribner-Snyder Trojans this past Thursday, October 31st in state football qualifying round action. The Jets outscored the Trojans 18 to 8 in the 2nd half and took home a 12 point victory, 38-26.  The scoring started in the 1st quarter on a 13 yard run by Chris Wenzl. The PAT run was stopped short. Wenzl threw for the next score as he found Kody Benson open from 5 yards out. That same combination accounted for the  PAT.

Lady Thunderbirds win one, lose one at P.C.

The JCC Lady Thunderbirds traveled to Pawnee City for a triangular on Tuesday, October 22nd. In the opening round, the Lady TBirds faced Pawnee City and were handed a 17-25, 14-25 loss to the Lady Indians. “We competed well against Pawnee City, but our hitting errors is what took us out of our game,” said JCC’s Head Volleyball Coach Nichole Justesen. “We felt good about being able to get a touch on the block against Pawnee City’s top hitter, Courtney Mathewson.

JCC rolls into State playoffs with nice win over Southern

JCC’s Justin Long (#40) slips some would-be Wymore Southern tacklers on a run in Thursday night action last week. JCC finished their regular season with a 34-27 win over W-S.
TECUMSEH - The Johnson County Central Thunderbirds soar into the Class C-2 State football playoffs this week after defeating Wymore Southern 34-27 in their final regular season game last Thursday, October 24th. “We’re excited for our team, players and community,” said Head Coach Dustin Buggi as the JCC Thunderbirds, which finished the regular season with a 4-4 record, and will play in the qualifying round of the Class C2 football playoffs on Thursday afternoon, October 31st. The Thunderbirds will travel to Norfolk for a 3 p.m. game against Lutheran High Northeast, which has a 7-1 record.

JCC finishes 13th, Saldivar places 46th at State CC

KEARNEY - The Johnson County Central Thunderbirds Cross Country team made the best out of their first performance as a team at the Class D State Cross Country Meet held in Kearney last Friday, October 25th. As a team, JCC finished 13th overall with their score of 213. Crofton won the Class D boys’ team even with a score of 69.

JCC “plays as a team” at ECNC Tournament

The volleyball girls at JCC Schools competed in the East Central Nebraska Conference (ECNC) volleyball tournament, October 14-17. In the opening round, JCC faced Malcolm in action played at Palmyra and were handed a  oss in three sets, 18-25, 23-25, and 16-25. “We competed well in the first two sets and then struggled in the third set. We need to work more on our passing choices,” said Nichole Justesen, JCC’s head volleyball coach.

Pooch competes in 2nd straight State Golf Meet

JCC’s Michaela Pooch chips in the cold conditions at State.
“It felt good to get back to state,” said Michaela Pooch of Tecumseh who advanced to the girls state golf meet on October 14-15. Pooch added that she didn’t do as well because of the miserable weather conditions. The first day  as rained out and the second day of the tournament was reduced to just 18 holes.

Sterling rolls Deshler 70-6 on Parent’s Night

The Sterling Jets took on the Deshler Dragons in their last home game of the regular season on Friday, October 18th. The Jets hit the ground running by racking up over 400 yards in total offense to lead them to the convincing  0-6 victory
