Lady Jets earn 3rd place at Pioneer

NEBRASKA CITY, FALLS CITY - The Sterling Lady Jets went into the 2014 Pioneer Conference Tournament as the #3 seed and came home with exactly that; 3rd place overall.
Sterling vs. Lourdes CC
On Monday, February 3rd, the Sterling Lady Jets played their first round game of the Pioneer Tournament against Lourdes Central Catholic. The game was played in Nebraska City as Lourdes was one of the host sites. Sterling got out of the gate early by senior post Jordan Lempka and sophomore guard Erika Goracke with seven and five points respectively. Sterling took a 15-3 advantage after the first quarter.

JCC knocks off Freeman, takes 2nd at ECNC

TECUMSEH, LINCOLN - The JCC Thunderbirds entered the 2014 East Central Nebraska Conference (ECNC) as the #4 seed, but came home with runner-up honors this past weekend.
JCC vs. Weeping Water
The Thunderbirds opened the ECNC Tournament at home on Monday, February 3rd when they hosted #5 seeded Weeping Water. JCC scored 17 points in each of the first two quarters to carry a 34-22 lead into the half. They outscored Weeping Water 16-13 in the 3rd quarter and 12-11 in the final period to cruise to the 62-46 victory.

Eagles fall to eventual champions at Pioneer

JOHNSON - The Johnson-Brock Eagles had home court advantage at the 2014 Pioneer Conference Basketball Tournament, but that couldn’t even help them knock off the #1 seeded and eventual champion Falls City Sacred Heart last week.
J-B vs. Southern
The Eagles went into the Conference Tournament as the #8 seed and had to defeat the #9 seeded Wymore Southern Raiders on Monday, February 3rd to get the shot at F.C. Sacred Heart. J-B raced out to a 20-5 first quarter lead and extended it to 36-11 at the half. They outscored W-S 22-18 in the second half for the 58-29 victory.

SUTTON, LEWISTON - The Sterling Lady Jets rebounded from a Tuesday night loss with a dominant victory over another opponent in action last week. Sterling vs. Sutton On Tuesday night, January 29th Sterling traveled to Sutton to take on the Sutton Phillies.

Lady Eagles go 2-1 in busy week before Conference play

AUBURN, FALLS CITY, JOHNSON - The Johnson-Brock Lady Eagles won two games and lost one game in competition last week before heading into Pioneer Conference play this next week. J-B vs. Auburn The Lady Eagles opened their week with a road game at Auburn on Tuesday, January 28th. J-B trailed 6-7 after the first quarter, but took a slight 17-16 lead heading into the locker rooms. In the 3rd quarter, the Lady Eagles went on a key 13-5 run and then edged Auburn 9-6 in the final period to pull out the 39-27 triumph.

Knights of Columbus crown FT champions

STERLING - Twenty-nine girls and boys from Southeast Nebraska, ages 9 to 14, were named local champions of the 2014 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship and have earned the right to compete at the district level. Twenty-one boys and eight girls competed in the local competition sponsored by St. Andrew-St. Mary Council #6750 at Sterling High School on Sunday, January 26th. All youngsters ages 9 to 14 were eligible to participate.

WEEPING WATER, TECUMSEH - The JCC Thunderbirds picked up two more wins in games that featured the three-point shot last week. JCC vs. Weeping Water On Tuesday night, January 21st, the Thunderbirds traveled to Weeping Water and collected a nice ECNC conference win over the Indians, 75-31

WEEPING WATER, TECUMSEH - The Johnson County Central Lady Thunderbirds lost one game and won one game last week. JCC vs. Weeping Water On Tuesday, January 21st, the Lady Thunderbirds traveled to 
Weeping Water to take on the Lady Indians. JCC were only down 8-9 after the first quarter and 13-18 at the halftime break, but were outscored 11-10 in the 3rd quarter and 18-11 in the 4th period. They lost by a 34-47 count

The JCC Thunderbirds went into the Class A Mudecas Basketball Tournament last week as the #7 seed, but came home with 4th place honors after their week of competition. JCC vs. Lourdes CC The Thunderbirds opened the
week against the #2 seeded Lourdes Central Catholic Knights on Tuesday, January 14th.  JCC trailed 7-14 after the first quarter and 21-24 at the half before they went on a 33-25 scoring run in the second half to claim the 54-49
upset over the Knights

Lady Jets get Class A Runner-up

BEATRICE - The Sterling Lady Jets went into the Class A Mudecas Basketball Tournament as the #3 seed and came home with the 2nd place trophy. Sterling vs. Palmyra On Monday, January 13th, Sterling played the 6th seed Palmyra and jumped out early on them with some good passing on offense and solid defense. Sterling won the opening tip as senior Jordan Lempka tipped the ball to freshman Taylor Cockerill and she went in for an uncontested layup. Shortly after that Lempka hit one of two free-throws and Cockerill hit a three point shot
