Sterling boys and girls finish 4th, 5th at Wilber-Clatonia Invite

WILBER - The Sterling Track team competed at the Wilber-Clatonia Track Meet held on Tuesday, March 31st. The Sterling boys came home with 4th place team honors with 36 points while the girls took 5th place overall with 28 points. The top individual performances for the girls were made by Taylor Cockerill and Becky Williams who both came home as silver medalists. Cockerill placed 2nd in both the 800 and 1600 Meter runs. She placed 2nd in the 800 with a time of 2:31.69 and 2nd in the 1600 clocked at 6:07.14.

JCC boys win 3rd consecutive 1st place team track trophy

The Johnson County Central boys’ track season started on the right foot with a third consecutive 1st place team trophy at the Nebraska Wesleyan University Indoor Invite held on Saturday, March 21st. The Thunderbirds were able to place at least one person in each event and were led by 1st place performances by Justin Kuhns and Sam Saldivar each with two gold medals.

Oestmann Signs Letter of Intent

Jarrett Oestmann, a senior at Johnson-Brock, recently signed his letter of intent for Iowa Central Community College for their rodeo team. Jarrett will focus on calf roping and team roping while attending Central Community College.

The Johnson-Brock 5th-6th grade team finished 3rd in the MIT tournament recently. The Pioneer Conference recently announced the 2015 All-Conference honorees from the 2014-15 basketball seasons with 11 area athletes on the exclusive list. Congratulations to these student/ athletes for their achievements both on the court and in the classrooms this past season!

Wolken defends heptathlon title

GENEVA, OHIO - Doane’s Kale Wolken,left, defended his heptathlon title at the NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championships held in Geneva, Ohio on March 5th and 6th. The junior led the competition throughout all seven events.
After winning the heptathlon, he also added points in the individual long jump where he placed 5th. The Tiger men’s track and field team finished sixth overall.

Womens’ City Bowling Tournament winners awarded

TECUMSEH - The Women’s City Bowling Tournament was held recently at Harvest Bowl with the total amount of prizes awarded being $535. The Pacesetters of Sterling won the Team division with a score of 3,174. Members of this team include Jan Vermeer, Darlene Hiller, Joann Lutcavish, Marj Hagstrom and Kim Dugan.
