Pioneer Conference basketball selections announced

The Johnson-Brock 5th-6th grade team finished 3rd in the MIT tournament recently. The Pioneer Conference recently announced the 2015 All-Conference honorees from the 2014-15 basketball seasons with 11 area athletes on the exclusive list. Congratulations to these student/ athletes for their achievements both on the court and in the classrooms this past season!

Wolken defends heptathlon title

GENEVA, OHIO - Doane’s Kale Wolken,left, defended his heptathlon title at the NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championships held in Geneva, Ohio on March 5th and 6th. The junior led the competition throughout all seven events.
After winning the heptathlon, he also added points in the individual long jump where he placed 5th. The Tiger men’s track and field team finished sixth overall.

Womens’ City Bowling Tournament winners awarded

TECUMSEH - The Women’s City Bowling Tournament was held recently at Harvest Bowl with the total amount of prizes awarded being $535. The Pacesetters of Sterling won the Team division with a score of 3,174. Members of this team include Jan Vermeer, Darlene Hiller, Joann Lutcavish, Marj Hagstrom and Kim Dugan.

Friend knocks Sterling Lady Jets out of state contention

WYMORE - Sterling went into the D1-1 sub-district as the #2 seed and played the #3 seed Diller/Odell on Tuesday, February 17th. Sterling had beaten Diller/Odell twice this year, but it was a one point game the first time and a
double over-time game at Pioneer Conference, so this looked to be an exciting matchup.

JCC Elementary wrestlers continue 2015 season at Syracuse, Auburn

   SYRACUSE, AUBURN - The JCC Elementary Wrestling Club traveled to Syracuse on Sunday, February 15 for the Syracuse Wrestling Tournament. There were 13 wrestlers participating at this tournament. The results
were: Erik Prado – 1st, Jonathan DeFreece – 4th, Connor Haufle – 4th, Lane Robeson – 2nd, Conner Gerking – 4th, Ezekiel Burki – 1st, Gabriel Burki – 2nd – Cameron Lowther – 3rd, Nolan Wellensiek – 3rd, Braxton Walz – 3rd, Christian Harrifeld – 3rd, Stephen Baumgartner - 4th, and Darin Baumgartner – 3rd.

Eagles’ last look at bucket comes up short

HUMBOLDT - The Johnson-Brock Eagles lost a nail-biter at HTRS on Friday night, February 13th as they had one last shot at the bucket in a 45-47 loss. J-B led HTRS 12-6 after one quarter of play but got down 20-23 at the half. Both teams scored 16 points in the 3rd quarter, so it came down to the 4th period.
