First Region V Systems Youth Leadership Conference

Article Image Alt Text
By Joan Peters
Ten high school students from the Johnson County Coalition attended a youth leadership training hosted by Region V Systems in Lincoln on March 1 & 2. It kicked off with supper at Pizza Ranch and activities at St. Mark’s church. Students were grouped with other students from the sixteen county area and had to work together to make a video scavenger hunt. Todd Calfee and Patrick Ingersoll of The Minnow Project, a very creative marketing team, spoke to the youth about marketing their healthy-lifestyle messages. The students then had to break into groups and come up with a healthy life campaign. They completed a poster ad and either a radio announcement or video announcement. Bullying, texting and driving, alcohol and drugs were incorporated into their messages. The students had to vote for the top four messages and then one will be selected for the region to use in all media campaigns.
