Eagles use huge 4th quarter to defeat P.C. on road

JOHNSON, PAWNEE CITY - The Johnson-Brock Eagles faced two quality teams this week in Falls City Sacred Heart and Pawnee City and pulled out one win. Johnson-Brock vs. FCSH The Johnson-Brock Eagles hosted
Falls City Sacred Heart on Thursday, January 29th and lost by a 54-71 score.

JCC boys pick up 11th win of season

TECUMSEH, HUMBOLDT - The Johnson County Central Thunderbirds  picked up their tenth and eleventh wins of the season this past week and are now 11-5. JCC vs. Weeping Water The JCC Thunderbirds got to double digit wins earlier in the week as they defeated the Weeping Water Indians 58-32 on Tuesday, January 20th at home.

Kuhns places 3rd at Louisville Invitational

LOUISVILLE - JCC wrestled at the Louisville Invite on Saturday, Jan. 24th with Justin Kuhns (126 lbs.) leading JCC with a third place finish and a 4-1 record at the tournament. Justin recorded four pins in winning matches against wrestlers from Tekamah-Herman, HTRS, Wilber, and AHST, Iowa. He suffered his only loss to Cooper Bates (Wilber- Clatonia) in a close 5-2 decision

JCC takes home 3rd in loaded Class A Division

 
BEATRICE - The Johnson County Central Thunderbirds almost pulled  off the upset of the Class A MudecasTournament last week, but instead settled for a 3rd place finish in a loaded division. JCC vs. FCSH The Johnson County Central Thunderbirds went into the Class  A Division as the #5 seed and facedthe #4 seeded Falls City Sacred Heart Irish in opening action on Tuesday, January 13th. JCC trailed 6-9 after the first quarter, but then carried a slight 22-20 lead into the half. FCSH outscored  CC 16-11 in the 3rd period, but  JCC answered back with a 19-12 fourth quarter to win by a close 52-48 score.

Lady Jets enter Class A as #5, take home 3rd

jets went into the Class A Mudecas Basketball Tournament as the #5  seed, but came home with the 3rd place plaque. Sterling vs. BDS On Monday, Jan. 12th Sterling played the fourth seed Bruning  Davenport Shickley.
With the two teams feeling each other o t the scoring started out a little slow as they each focused on their defense. BDS would get all five of their points from Jaycie Hoins while Sterling would get their eight points off two free- throws by junior Erika Goracke and two threepoint buckets by sophomore Taylor  Cockerill.

J-B Lady Eagles claim Class B Mudecas Runner-up title

BEATRICE - The Johhson-Brock Lady Eagles came home with  the Class B Mudecas Runner-up plaque last week after defeating both Lewiston and Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer and then losing to Wymore Southern in the
championship game. Johnson-Brock vs. Lewiston The Lady Eagles were seeded #2 coming into the tournament and took on the #8 seeded Lady Tigers of Lewiston in the opening round of Mudecas on Monday,
January 12th.

Jets win three tough battles heading into Mudecas tourney

The Sterling boys’ basketball team also picked up three more tough wins last week before heading into the Mudecas Tournament this week. Sterling vs Johnson Brock On Tuesday, January 6, the Jets took on the hard working Johnson- Brock Eagles in Sterling, Nebraska. The first quarter was a battle, scoring wise the Jets and Eagles were exchanging good baskets and well executed plays and at the end of the first it was the Jets 11 and the Eagles 8.

The Sterling Lady Jets played three games last week against Johnson- Brock, Dorchester and Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer and swept all three teams. Sterling vs. Johnson-Brock On Tuesday, January 6th, Sterling played host to the Johnson-Brock Lady Eagles. Johnson would get off to a quick start right after the tip with a threepoint shot by Brooklyn Westenburg, but the Lady Jets were ready to answer back. Sophomore point guard Taylor Cockerill made an offensive rebound put back and later a free-throw and junior guard Erika Goracke scored a fifteen foot jumper and a three pointer.

Macy Richardson named national Punt, Pass and Kick champion

Tecumseh’s Macy Richardson holds the two trophies in her claim to fame as she earned National Championship titles in the 2015 Punt, Pass and Kick competition (left) and the Pitch, Hit and Run competition, which she accomplished in 2012.
“I was happy and relieved,” said Macy Richardson of Tecumseh, She was one of 10 young athletes among a field of 40 national finalists from across the United States who posted champion finishes in the NFL Punt, Pass and Kick National Finals in Seattle, Wash., on January 10. Finalist competed separately in five age divisions at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton, Wash. Top scorer in each group was crowned national champion.

JCC takes 3rd at own Holiday Tourney

TECUMSEH - The Johnson County Central Thunderbirds claimed 3rd place at their own Holiday Tournament last week and also faced undefeated Freeman in regular season play. JCC vs. Syracuse The Thunderbirds hosted a Holiday Basketball Tournament on Monday and Tuesday, December 29th and 30th.
