Bulldogs top JCC 47-22

AUBURN - The Johnson County Central Thunderbirds traveled up the road to Auburn to take on the Bulldogs on Friday night, October 2nd. Auburn jumped out to a 20-0 first quarter lead and never looked back in the game. By halftime they led 34-6. Auburn tacked on 13 more points in the 3rd quarter, while JCC scored 16 points in the final period.

JCC girls playing best golf heading into C-1 Districts next week

KIRKMAN’S, AUBURN - The Johnson County Central girls’ golf team has been busy the past two Mondays at the HTRS Invitational and the Auburn Invitational. The Lady Thunderbirds traveled to the HTRS Invite at Kirkmans Lakeview Golf Course on Monday, September 21st which they won with a 423 followed by HTRS with a 450. Rudy Pooch was the gold medalist with her score of 92. Melissa Aldana placed 2nd with a 107. Other results were: 4th, Taylor Gerdes 110; 6th, Sharon Albers 114; 7th, Alejandra Rojas 114.

Eagles face feisty FCSH Irish at home

JOHNSON - The Johnson-Brock Eagles had their hands full with a fiery Falls City Sacred Heart Irish team on Friday night, September 25th. The Eagles trailed 6-26 after the first quarter and were down 6-42 at the halftime break. They matched FCSH 6-6 in the third quarter before the Irish tacked on 6 more points in the final period for the 54-12 win. Johnson-Brock Head Coach Tim Newman commented, “We came out and gave up an early score, but we were able to bounce back and get a touchdown of our own. After that, however, we simply had no answer for their running game.

JCC has 12 medalists at own Golf Invitational

TECUMSEH - The Johnson County Central Golf Invitational was held on Thursday, September 17th at the Tecumseh Country Club. The JCC Lady Thunderbirds finished 2nd in the team competition with a score of 404, right behind Tarkio, Mo who won the Invitational with a 399. Palmyra followed with a 467 and Exeter-Milligan had a 557. Tarkio’s Bree Barnett won the individual gold medal with a total of 88.

Sterling Lady Jets are 2015 Class B Mudecas Champions

BEATRICE – It didn’t come easy, but the Sterling Lady Jets prevailed as the 2015 Class B Mudecas Champions after going into the tournament as the #4 seed overall. The Lady Jets went three sets with each of their three opponents in the tournament, but came away with victories over #5 seeded Lewiston, #1 seeded HTRS and then #2 seeded Palmyra.

Sterling Lady Jets win host triangular

STERLING - The Sterling Lady Jets had a good week of competition against Class C-2 Freeman and then a host triangular where they gained two wins over Falls City and Pawnee City. Sterling vs. Freeman The Lady Jets hosted the Freeman Falcons on Tuesday night, September 8th, but lost in three sets, 8-25, 8-25, 10-25 to the talented Lady Falcon team.

TECUMSEH - The Johnson County Central Thunderbirds had a very tough matchup on Friday night, September 11th as they hosted the Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines and lost by a 6-57 score. Wilber-Clatonia got on the board early and often as they were up 30-0 after the 1st quarter and led 44-6 at the halftime break.

JCC falls to Southern at home, 7-21

TECUMSEH - The Johnson County Central Thunderbirds hosted the Wymore Southern Raiders on Friday night, September 4th, but lost by a 7-21 count. Southern scored in the first quarter on a 4-yard touchdown run and PAT kick to take a 7-0 lead.

First half scoring gives Sterling edge they need over P.C.

PAWNEE CITY - Even though they won by a 32-20 final score, the Sterling Jets had their hands full with the home-standing Pawnee City Indians late in the game on Friday night, September 4th. In a sloppy first quarter, the only score came on the opening kickoff as Sterling's Jordan Wenzl returned it 70 yards for a 6-0 lead.

Coach Karr’s season outlook: “We lost two seniors from last year’s squad so we have five seniors and one junior that played a lot last year. We did get Hannah Jasa, setter, back from a knee injury last year. So that should help in the setting department. We also have a talented freshman coming up as a setter too. We have a total of twenty girls out this year of which seven are freshmen with better than average athleticism and volleyball skills.
