JCC boys finish season with 10-11 final record

NEBRASKA CITY - The Johnson County Central Thunderbirds went into the Class C1-1 subdistricts at Lourdes Central Catholic last week as the #2 seed and faced the #3 seeded Syracuse Rockets on Tuesday, February 19th.

Sterling Lady Jets knock off Loomis to advance to State

HAMPTON - The Sterling Lady Jets were the #5 seed at the Class D2-5 District basketball final on Friday, February 22nd which was played at Hampton High School.

The Lady Jets faced the #12 seeded Loomis Lady Wolves and came home with a 64-50 victory to claim the District title and advance to the State Tournament.

“I was really happy with how we started the game. The girls were really focused and locked in. They knew our game plan and executed it to perfection. On top of that, we were shooting the ball really well.

JCC battles Bulldogs in final regular season home game

TECUMSEH - The Johnson County Central Thunderbirds hosted the Auburn Bulldogs in their last regular season game on Friday night, February 15th.

The Thunderbirds trailed the Bulldogs 6-14 after the first period and then got down 12-24 at the half. JCC rallied back in the 3rd period at 18-17, but then were outscored 15-11 in the final period as they lost by a 41-56 count.

Head Coach Kirk Faris commented, “The fans that braved the weather tonight got to watch a good basketball game between two teams that played hard and well. Unfortunately, we didn’t come out on top this time.”

Eli Waring led all scorers with 14 points and had 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block and 1 steal. Kole Kleespies followed with 13 points and had three treys, 4 steals, 1 rebound and 1 assist. Trey Holthus also scored 13 points with two treys and he had 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

Johnson-Brock Lady Eagles win Class D1-2 subdistricts

WYMORE - The Johnson-Brock Lady Eagles were the #1 seed heading into the Class D1-2 Subdistricts last week at Wymore Southern, and that’s exactly how they finished after dispatching both Pawnee City and Diller/ Odell.

Johnson-Brock vs. P.C.

The Lady Eagles opened subdistrict action on Tuesday, February 12th against the #4 seeded Pawnee City Lady Indians and brought home an easy 40-24 victory.

J-B led 6-5 after the 1st period and went into the halftime break ahead 19-11. They outscored P.C. 16-9 in the 3rd period and then edged the Lady Indians 5-4 in the final quarter for the win.

Jayse Koehler led the Lady Eagles with 13 points and was followed by Logan Edwards and Jordan Koehler each with 8 points.

Hailey Sandfort contributed 6 points; Taylor Buchmeier and Audrey Sandfort each had 2 points and Elizabeth Hodges added 1 point.

Eagles roll past Mead

JOHNSON - The Johnson-Brock Eagles hosted the Mead Raiders for their final regular season game on Friday night, February 15th.

The Eagles had a scoring explosion in the 1st period as they got up 24-3 right away and cruised into the halftime break with a huge 41-12 advantage.

Mead went on an 18-11 run in the 3rd period before Johnson-Brock outscored them 13-10 in the final period for the easy 65-40 victory.

Ty Hahn poured in 26 points in the game and had 6 treys along with 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal.

Cole Fossenbarger followed close behind with 20 points and had 3 treys with 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal.

Kaden Glynn also hit double digits with 10 points and had 2 treys, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal.

Kolt Davis scored 5 points with 1 assist and 1 steal and Dylan Rowe added 4 points with 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

Shane Westhart pulled in 5 rebounds in the game and had 1 assist while Wyatt Volker made 1 assist.

Sterling boys fall to Freeman

ADAMS - The Sterling Jets played their last regular season game on Friday, February 15th against the Freeman Falcons, but couldn’t pull off the upset on the Falcons home floor.

Sterling trailed 10-17 after the first period, but only scored 4 points in the 2nd period and got down by a 14-36 deficit at the half.

Freeman went on to outscore the Jets 15-6 in the 3rd quarter before Sterling took a slight 15-13 edge in the final quarter to lose 35-64.

Logan Jasa led the Jets with 9 points off of 3 treys while Caleb Dolbow followed with 8 points and 2 treys. Trace Dirks hit two treys for 6 points and Kaleb Masur connected on 5/8 freethrows for 5 points.

Treygan Keeler pitched in 4 points off of two field goals and Andrew Richardson hit one trey for 3 points.

Johnson-Brock Lady Eagles finish regular season with 13-8 record

ADAMS, HUMBOLDT - The Johnson-Brock Lady Eagles went 1-1 in their last regular season games last week against the Freeman Lady Falcons and the Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer Lady Titans to make their season record 13-8 heading into subdistricts this week.
