JCC VB Triumphs Over Wilber-Clatonia & Palmyra

Johnson County Central’s volleyball team had a strong showing against Syracuse, a state-ranked C-1 opponent action played on Tuesday night, September 10. According to Tim Hedger, JCC’s Head Volleyball Coach, scores were close in both sets before losing 18-25, 19-25. The Lady Thunderbirds had opportunities to win but couldn’t convert late in each set. Overall, the team hit well, hitting a .211 efficiency, getting eight kills from senior Carrie Beethe.

Morgan Moran contributed three kills of her own. Zadie Plager and Saylor Rother added two aces apiece. Hayley Neemann added 16 assists. “The team played competitively with a very strong volleyball program that saw the state playoffs last season. With every match, the team improves in confidence and mental strength,” said Coach Hedger. He added that three of the four losses this season have come from state-ranked opponents (Mead, Syracuse, and HTRS).

Lady Jets Play Three Close Sets but Fall to Freeman Falcons

The Sterling Lady Jets played three close sets against Freeman in volleyball action played on Sterling’s home court on September 10. However, the Lady Jets just couldn’t pull out the victory. Freeman won all three sets, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-22.

The Sterling girls took the lead in all three sets, but Freeman knew how to come back and take control for the victory.

The Lady Jets’ Colby Thies led the girls in their attack with 12 kills in the game. Macy Richardson helped out with five kills and Dani Janssen contributed three kills.

JCC Volleyballers Lose to State-Ranked Mead, Split Wins with Falls City & HTRS

Johnson County Central’s volleyball team lost 3-0 (13-25, 13-25, 17-25) to conference opponent and state-ranked Mead in action played on the road September 3. Mead finds themselves ranked in the top ten in C-2 after moving up from D-1 last season.

Thunderbird Squad Attacks Lions in September 6 Victory

After a tough loss in a season opener on August 30, the T-Birds of Johnson County Central Schools put together a string of plays on offense and one big play by Tucker Liberty on defense, (an 85 yard interception return for a touchdown) to defeat the Louisville Lions 38-13 in action played on the road at Louisville, September 6. the game 38-13.

Jets Claimed First FB Victory on the Road

The Sterling Jets opened the 2019 football season by traveling to St. Edward to take on the Beavers. Joel Rathe led the Jets with three touchdowns, while Sterling’s defense held up their end by allowing only 6 pointsto the Beavers. The Sterling Jets blasted the St. Edward Beavers 50-6.

Sterling Jets Shut Out Walthill 59-0 in Friday’s Game

The Sterling Jets hosted the Walthill Bluejays in the home opener for the Jets football squad on Friday, September

6. Sterling’s offense was led by Joel Rathe who finished with 150 rushing yards and five touchdowns while the Jets pitched a successful 59-0 shutout victory.

McDonald, Barras Take Top Medals at Cross Country Meet

Johnson County Central opened its cross country season at the Auburn Invitational in very hot and humid conditions. The varsity boys finished sixth out of eight teams, while the girls could not compile a team score.

JCC’s Ashlei McDonald finished second for the Lady Thunderbirds while Dakotah Ludemann finished in 18th place respectively.

Tecumseh Seniors Third in Class C Area 4 Tourney

The Tecumseh Seniors American Legion Baseball Team competed in the Class C Area 4 Tournament at Wilber July 19-24.

The Tecumseh Seniors opened their tournament against Adams-Sterling and were handed a 14-4 loss. The Tecumseh Seniors started out strong and had a 4-0 lead after the fourth inning. Tecumseh pulled Kolt Davis as pitcher because they wanted to save him for later games in the tournament. Unfortunately, the Tecumseh boys made seven errors in the field which contributed to Adams-Sterling scoring 14 runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Tecumseh Coach Keaton Kleespies credited Adams-Sterling for not giving up. “We didn’t show up ready to play in this game,” he concluded.

Tecumseh Juniors Compete in Class C Area 4 Tournament

The Tecumseh Juniors American Legion baseball team competed in the Class C Area 4 tournament played at Wymore, July 12-17.

In the opening game of the tournament, the Tecumseh boys beat Hebron 7-0. The Tecumseh boys had a total of nine hits in the game. They controlled a 3-0 lead going into the sixth inning and added four more runs to secure the 7-0 win.
