Daniel J. Gorman

Daniel J. Gorman, 33, of Lincoln, formerly of Tecumseh and Sterling, passed away unexpectedly at his home on August 29, 2019. He was born January 7, 1986 at Martinez, CA and grew up in the Tecumseh and Sterling area. He moved to California in 2011 and was the owner/operator of Lawn Pros, a landscaping business which he began in spring 2012. In August of 2017, he moved back to Nebraska to be closer to his children.

Survivors include two daughters, Cameron Frieburghouse and Cortney Gorman; his mother, Cynthia (William) Nichols of Sterling; two brothers, Jeremiah (Michelle) Gorman along with their children, Mark, Ethan, Abby, Alysa and Samuel, Christopher (Chelsy) Gorman along with their children Arrison, Britton and Triton. He was preceded in death by his father, Mark Britton Gorman and Grandma Rose Davison.

Carol Ann Dunekacke

Carol Ann (Reddish) Dunekacke died early in the morning on Sunday, September 1, 2019, at age 77.

Carol was born on September 27, 1941, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Her family moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming when she was very young, and returned to the Lincoln area in time for the Reddish sisters to start country school in Roca, Nebraska. Carol loved country school, but received her high school diploma from Lincoln High.

Carol excelled at arithmetic, and after high school, she started her career as a bookkeeper; first for the family’s Lincoln business, Reddish Brothers, and later for a local auto dealership. She moved to the West Coast in her early 20s, then returned to Lincoln, where she joined a bowling league and met Jean Dunekacke––her eventual friend and sister-in-law.

Evelyn June Aufdenkamp

A Memorial Service for Evelyn June Aufdenkamp, age 92, of O’Neill will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Christ Lutheran Church in O’Neill. Rev. John Nelson will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Wanda Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. In Lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be given to the O’Neill Area Special Olympics, 622 Fairway Ave. O’Neill, NE.

Evelyn passed away Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill.

Evelyn June Fajen was born June 15, 1927, in Washington County, Kansas, to Walter and Olga (Dierking) Fajen. She grew up in the Palmer and Linn communities before graduating from Clifton (Kansas) High School in 1945. She moved to Nebraska in 1946.

She married Arthur Christian Aufdenkamp on December 26, 1948. Three children were born to this union: Dennis, Joyce, and Jonathan.

Orva Jean Gobber

Orva Jean Boden, one of eight children of Herman John and Rosa Gretja Etta Anna (Hestermann) Boden, was born July 2, 1936 at Peru, Nebraska. She was baptized July 26, 1936 at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Sterling, Nebraska and confirmed June 4, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn. Orva Jean attended school in Peru in her early years and graduated from Nemaha High School on May 13, 1954. After graduating she took a job as a telephone operator for LT&T.

On November 6, 1955 Orva Jean was united in marriage to Arnold Gobber at Trinity Lutheran Church by Rev. Dreyer. The couple made their home on a farm near Elk Creek, Nebraska and would be blessed with three children: Kay, Lori, and Tim.

Death Notice

Les Dirksen died September 8, 2019 at the age of 83. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 13, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Auburn, Neb., with the Reverend Jonathan Rathjen officiating.

Visitation will be Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hemmingsen Funeral Home, Auburn, Neb.

Burial will be at Spring Creek Cemetery, Tecumseh, Neb.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Ervin “Butch” Panko

Ervin “Butch” Panko, 84, of Syracuse, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Center in Syracuse, Nebraska. He was born to Fred and Louise (Doeden) Panko on December 29, 1934 on the farm near Cook, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Cook, Nebraska. Butch attended rural elementary school near Cook and graduated from Cook High School in 1952. He farmed and did mechanical work for many years for Panko Repair.

Butch served his country in the National Guard and later in the Army Reserves from 1952 -1994. Butch served on the Nemaha Valley School Board and Grace Lutheran Church Council. He loved to tell stories and had a good sense of humor. Butch would be described by many as ornery and he practiced this throughout his life.

Randall L. Rinne

Randall L. Rinne, 64, of rural Tecumseh, Nebraska, passed away at Belle Terrace in Tecumseh, Nebraska, on Tuesday, August 20, 2019. He was born to Marvin and Oleta (Haack) Rinne on May 27, 1955 in Humboldt, Nebraska. Randall was baptized June 26, 1955 by Rev. John Heins and confirmed May 4, 1969 by Rev. Harold Stelzer and attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, rural Elk Creek, Nebraska.

He attended elementary school at Elk Creek Public and St. Peter’s Lutheran Parochial. The family moved to Tecumseh and Randall graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1973. He had a love for fast, loud vehicles, so he pursued further education at Milford Community College and obtained a degree in Auto Body.

He was united in marriage to Deb Lantz on March 20, 1976 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska. To this union, Emilie and Lantz were born.

JoAnn (Holden) Jurgens

JoAnn (Holden) Jurgens was born to Dale and Ellyn (Villars) Holden on September 27, 1942 in Tecumseh, Nebraska. In her early years, JoAnn was a member of the United Methodist Church in Tecumseh where she was baptized on April 17, 1949 and confirmed May 24, 1953. She attended Tecumseh Public Schools and graduated from Tecumseh High School.

JoAnn was married to George Wusk in 1961 and they later divorced.

She married Alvin Jurgens in August of 1979. After their marriage, Alvin and JoAnn lived near Filley and JoAnn became a member of the American Lutheran Church. Alvin passed away July, 2016.

Linda Marie Wolken

Linda Marie Wolken, 58, of Kansas City, MO, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born to Marion and Arlene (Buente) Wolken on September 28, 1960 in Tecumseh, Nebraska. Linda was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska. She remained in the Christian faith until her passing. Linda grew up on the family farm located near Johnson, Nebraska. She enjoyed the outdoors, helping with gardening and canning, raising lambs, pets, attending Teens for Christ Youth events, and being with family and friends. She attended Johnson Brock Public School from kindergarten through graduation in 1978. She continued her education at Northwest Missouri State University. Linda received her Bachelor of Science in Education, Home Economics in May of 1982. She completed her Masters Degree from Mid America Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas in 1993.

Peggy Ann Black

Peggy Ann Black, 66, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2019.

She was born September 1, 1952, in Marysville, Kansas, the daughter of Clarence and Ila (Stanberry) Lempka. She graduated from Sterling High School and furthered her education be receiving her Bachelor’s Degree from Washburn University in psychology.

She was employed by the State Of Kansas working as a Veteran Representative.

She was a very active member at Temple Beth Sholom. She was involved on the Adult Education Committee and the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom. Repairing books at the Temple was something that she was passionate about as well as being a part of the Blintze Brunch. She was the Co-Chair for Adult Education and helped with the Mitzvah (caring) Committee.
