Tecumseh Poultry’s Chicken Growing House Destroyed

Article Image Alt Text

The Nebraska State Fire Marshal’s office is still investigating a fire that occurred late Friday night involving a chicken growing house occupied by an estimated 22,000 chickens. The structure is located on property owned by Tecumseh Poultry, three miles north and two miles east of Tecumseh. Only one of the 30 chicken growing houses was totaled in the fire. Tecumseh Poultry is a subsidiary of Tyson Foods which purchased the Smart Chicken company in June of 2018.

“Thankfully, no one was hurt and we sure appreciated the quick response of the Tecumseh Fire Department in putting the fire out,” said Worth Sparkman, communications spokesman for Tyson’s. There were approximately 40 firefighters on the scene as the Tecumseh Fire District called in the Sterling, Cook, and Elk Creek Fire Districts for mutual aid assistance. A few Burr firefighters responded to the call as well.
