Options for burning CRP acres during dry weather

Area farmers with CRP contracts with the Johnson County Farm Service Agency have until April 30 for doing prescribed burns because the nesting season for game birds begins around this time of year. Currently, Johnson County’s FSA office has signed up 552 CRP contracts totaling 18,595 acres. Farmers who don’t have a CRP contract and wants to burn off their own pastureland don’t have to abide by the April 30 deadline.
