Marlen David Beethe was born to Otto and Laura (Wolters) Beethe on November 4, 1940 in Pawnee County, Nebraska. He was baptized on November 24, 1940 by Rev. Enno Schuelke and confirmed May 2, 1954 by Rev.
Frank Schaefer at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Marlen was united in marriage to Lois Dieckhoff on July 25, 1964 at the Martin Luther Church, south of Johnson, Nebraska. To this union two daughters were born, Cynthia and Julie. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from March 8, 1961 to his honorable discharge on February 2, 1966. Marlen and Lois made their home southwest of Elk Creek where they raised their family and farmed. He was a grain farmer and raised cattle and hogs. After his parents, Otto and Laura moved to Tecumseh, Marlen and Lois moved to the family farm where they resided until his death. Marlen was a lifetime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Elk Creek, where he held several offices over the years. In his spare time Marlen enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, boating and tractor pulling. For the last three years Marlen and Lois traveled south in their fifth wheel camper for a month during the winter. He passed away January 31, 2014 at the Detar Navarro Heart Center Hospital in Victoria, Texas at the age of 73 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Lois, of Elk
Creek, daughters, Cynthia Walters and husband Troy, Jr. of Elk Creek and Julie Beekman and husband Chris of Lincoln, four grandchildren, Amber Jacobsen and husband Tim, Crystal, Brittany and Dylan Walters, three
great-grandchildren, Jared, Tyler and Brody, brother, Dalen Beethe and wife Mary of Pawnee City, sisters, Mardell Hestermann of Sterling and Sheila Peters and husband Royce of Elk Creek, mother-in-law, Hilda Dieckhoff of
Beatrice, in-laws, Lucille Schaardt of Elk Creek, Lillian Fritch and husband Ken of Beatrice, Lloyd Dieckhoff of Linwood and Allen Jensen of Beatrice and nieces and  nephews. Marlen was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Robert Butler, Jr., sister, Maryellen Doeden, father-in-law, John Dieckhoff,  brothers-in-law, Paul Hestermann, Ray Doeden and Elmo Schaardt, sister-in-law, Leola Jensen and nephews, Brad Hestermann, Mitch Doeden and Craig Peters. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 6, 2014 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Rev. Robert Schermbeck officiating. Loretta Kerchal, organist,
accompanied congregational hymns, “Amazing Grace” “O Perfect Love” and “On Eagle’s Wings.” Pallbearers were Brian Hestermann, Kevin Hestermann, Bruce Heuke, Curtis Peters, Scott Beethe and Matt Doeden. Honorary
pallbearers were Willis Buethe, Ivan Woltemath, Byford Schmit, Lloyd Beethe, Les Heidemann, Lavon Heidemann, Harlan Heidemann and Gary Horstman. Interment was in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, rural Elk Creek,
Nebraska. Memorials may go to the family’s choice. Online condolences may be left @ www.
